Compensation commuted

In plain English

If both sides are told about it, the workers' comp commission or court can let an employer off the hook for future payments. To do this, the employer either sets up an annuity or similar payment plan through another responsible party, or deposits a lump sum of money with the commission, which then pays it out to the worker.
