Administrative law judges and legal advisors serving in Armed Forces may elect to purchase creditable prior service

In plain English

An administrative law judge or legal advisor who served in the U.S. military before joining Missouri's retirement system can buy up to four years of extra retirement credit for that military time. The person pays an amount based on what the state would have contributed, plus simple interest, and has up to two years to finish paying. If that person dies before retiring, their surviving spouse can get the money back — but only if the spouse is not already receiving a different survivor benefit.
