Benefits, how paid
This law explains how Missouri pays unemployment benefits. A person who is totally out of work gets their full weekly benefit amount. A person who is working some but not full time gets a partial payment — the difference between their weekly benefit and the wages they earned over twenty dollars (or twenty percent of their weekly benefit, whichever is more). How many weeks someone can collect benefits depends on the state's unemployment rate — anywhere from 13 weeks (when unemployment is below 6%) up to 20 weeks (when unemployment is 9% or higher). Benefits can be paid by check or direct deposit into a bank account. When someone files for benefits by phone or internet, the state checks their Social Security number and date of birth to make sure everything matches.
