Debtor's federal income tax refund may be intercepted
If someone owes money to Missouri's unemployment office and hasn't paid it back, the state can take that money from the person's federal tax refund. The state can also use collection agencies to try to get that money back.
288.175. Debtor's federal income tax refund may be intercepted — debt defined — debtor defined — use of collection agencies . — 1. any other to the contrary, the may collect any debt by interception of the debtor's federal income tax refund, in the manner and to the extent allowed by federal law.
2. "Debt" shall mean any established or sum past due that is legally owed and under the Missouri , which has through contract or and which has become under state law and remains uncollected.
3. "Debtor" shall mean any individual, , , , , or other owing a debt.
4. The division may utilize collection agencies to collect any debt as defined in this section to the extent and manner allowed by federal law.
