Municipalities and counties to pay replacement costs of driver's license, when

If a city or county takes away someone's driver's license and then loses it, that city or county has to pay to get a new one made. A license counts as lost if 30 days have passed since it was taken, there is no legal reason to keep holding it, and the city or county cannot find it.

Word-for-word law

302.187. Municipalities and counties to pay replacement costs of driver's , when. — Any or county that, after having taken the motor vehicle driver's license of a person, loses such license shall replace such license and pay all costs of replacement. For purposes of this section, such license shall be lost if, after thirty days from the date of taking such license, such municipality or county has no legal reason for such license and cannot locate such license.
