Driving without commercial driver's license, penalty

In plain English

If someone drives a commercial truck or big vehicle without the right type of license, the right endorsements, or a valid permit, that is a class A misdemeanor crime. If a person can show the court they actually had a valid commercial driver's license on the day they got the ticket, they are off the hook. If found guilty, the person must serve at least 48 hours in jail before being let out on parole or probation — unless instead they do at least 10 days and 40 hours of community service. After a conviction, the person also loses the privilege to drive commercial vehicles.
