Buses, axle weight limits

In plain English

Buses are not held to the usual weight rules for trucks and other vehicles. Instead, buses have their own weight limits: no more than 20,000 pounds on one axle, and no more than 34,000 pounds on a tandem axle. A bus over those limits cannot be driven on Missouri roads.

Word-for-word law

304.181. Buses, weight limits. — The limitations on weight on axles established in section 304.180, do not apply to buses. No bus having a greater weight than twenty thousand on one axle or thirty-four thousand pounds on any shall be moved on or operated on any in this state. The terms "axle" and "tandem axle" as used in this section shall have the same meaning as is provided in section 304.180, for other vehicles.
