Violations, penalties
When someone breaks a traffic law in an active emergency zone, they get extra fines on top of the normal ones. For most traffic violations, the extra fine is $35 the first time and $75 after that. For speeding or illegal passing when emergency workers are present, the extra fine is $250 the first time and $300 after that. Passing another car in an emergency zone is also a class C misdemeanor. These extra fines do not increase court costs or add extra points to a driving record.
