Odometer fraud, second degree, penalty

It is a crime to mess with a car's odometer — the part that shows how many miles the car has been driven — in order to trick someone. If a person disconnects, resets, or changes the odometer while they have the car, the law automatically treats that as proof they were trying to cheat someone. This crime is a class E felony.

407.521. , second degree, . — 1. A person commits the of odometer fraud in the second degree if he or she, with the disconnects, resets, or alters the of any motor vehicle with the intent to change the number of miles indicated thereon.
