Duration of contract, renewal, terms and limitations

A health club contract cannot last more than 24 months. After someone has been a member for at least 6 months, the club can offer them a longer contract. The contract must clearly show how long it lasts, in bold letters size 14 or bigger. The contract cannot automatically renew on its own, but the member can choose to renew it themselves.

407.675. Duration of contract, renewal, terms and limitations. — No contract shall be valid for a term longer than twenty-four months from the date upon which the contract is signed. However, a club may allow a member to convert his contract into a contract for a period longer than twenty-four months after the member has been a member of the club for a period of at least six months. The duration of the contract shall be clearly and disclosed in the contract in boldface type of a minimum size of 14-. No contract shall contain an ; provided, however, that such an agreement may provide for the buyer to exercise a renewal.
