Illegal use of premises renders lease void

If someone renting a house or building uses it for illegal gambling, prostitution, or illegal drugs, the rental agreement becomes canceled. The landlord can then take back the property, the same way they would if a renter stayed past the end of their lease.

441.020. Illegal use of renders . — Whenever any of any house, apartment or building permits any prohibited gaming table, bank or device to be set up or be kept or used upon the premises, for the purpose of gaming, or keeping in the same a , or , or allowing the illegal possession, sale or distribution of upon the premises, the lease or agreement for such house or building shall become void, and the may enter on the premises so let, and shall have the same for the recovery of the premises as in the case of a the 's term.
