Issuance of license prohibited, when

A marriage license cannot be given to anyone under 18 years old. When someone applies for a marriage license, they have to show proof of their age, like a birth certificate, passport, or government ID. The recorder writes down whether the people applying are old enough to get married.

451.090. of prohibited, when — of age. — 1. No shall a license authorizing the marriage of any male or female under eighteen years of age.

2. The recorder shall state in every license whether the parties applying for same are of age. s shall provide proof of age to the recorder in the form of a of the applicant's birth , passport, or other government-issued identification, which shall then be documented by the recorder.
