A married person can file a paper (called a petition) with the circuit court to ask for things like divorce or other related matters. The court handles it the same way it handles other regular civil cases.

452.240. of , proceedings. — The petition of a married person for any of the purposes before mentioned may be filed and the case heard and determined in the , and the like and proceedings shall be had as in other triable before judges.
