Certified or guaranteed check required, when

In plain English

When someone pays child support by check and the check bounces (has no money to cover it), the state can charge that person a fee of up to $25 to cover the cost of dealing with the bad check. After that happens, the state can also require that any future checks from that person be certified or guaranteed, meaning the bank promises the money is there. That $25 fee is treated the same as a support payment and can be collected the same way.
