Payment of benefit due, discharge from liability

When a custodial parent files a health insurance claim for their child, the insurance company pays the money directly to the custodial parent — as long as the provider hasn't already been paid and the noncustodial parent hasn't paid out of pocket. Once the insurance company makes that payment, it is off the hook for that claim.
