Temporary relief available
A judge can give a person a short-term emergency protection order without the other person being there first. This order can stop the other person from hurting, threatening, stalking, or bothering the person who asked for protection. It can also keep the other person away from the home, stop them from calling or messaging, and give temporary custody of kids or pets to the person asking for protection.
