Shelter request exceeding funds, allocation priorities
When more shelters ask for money than there is money available, the people in charge hand out the money in a specific order. Shelters that were already open on August 13, 1982 get first pick. Next are shelters that offer the most kinds of help, like medical, mental health, money, education, job, child care, and legal services. After that come places that specifically help people hurt by domestic violence. Last are any other shelters that qualify.
455.225. Shelter request exceeding funds, priorities. — If a receives applications from more than one for victims of and the requests for the funds exceed the amount of funds available, funds shall be on the basis of the following priorities:
(1) To shelters in existence on August 13, 1982;
(2) To shelters offering or proposing to offer the broadest range of services and to the community , including medical, psychological, financial, educational, , child care services and legal services;
(3) To other facilities offering or proposing to offer services specifically to victims of physical domestic violence;
(4) To other qualified shelters.
