When someone dies without a will and has no known family to inherit their belongings, the court clerk must put a public notice in at least two newspapers. This notice runs once a week for six weeks in a row. The notice includes the dead person's name, what they looked like, when and where they died, where they were born (if known), and how much their belongings are worth.
473.040.
