When someone dies with a small estate, the court can choose to have the property valued by an appraiser before deciding how to handle the estate. The court picks who does the appraisal, and the people who are getting the property have to pay for it.
473.107. Small appraised, when. — The may the of the property before a is made under section 473.097 or before an order refusing is made under section 473.090. The appraisal shall be made by one or more appointed by the court and the cost thereof shall be paid by the persons entitled to the property in accordance with the order of the court.
