When someone dies, the person in charge of their estate (called an executor or administrator) has to collect any money or debts that were owed to the person who died. They also have to start or keep up any lawsuits that need to happen as part of handling the estate, and they have to defend against any lawsuits brought against them in that role.
473.270. Collection of debts, and of suits. — and shall collect all money and debts of every kind due to the , and give receipts and discharges therefor, and shall commence and all actions which may be maintained and are necessary in the course of his , and defend all actions brought against him.
