When a conservator's job ends — either because the person they were protecting (the protectee) is now able to handle their own affairs, or because the protectee died — the conservator has to return all money and property. Once everything is returned, the protectee (or their estate's representative) signs a written statement saying they got everything back. That statement has to be signed in front of an official who can witness legal documents. After that, the court officially records that the conservator's duties are done. If the protectee can't be found or refuses to sign, the court can still officially release the conservator after reviewing the situation.
475.315. Receipt by , or others, . — of or , having received all money and other found to be due to their protectees or to the estate of a protectee, and protectees having received all money and other estate due from their conservators on the expiration of their , shall acknowledge of in the proper court; or if the protectee, on due notice, neglects or refuses to make , or cannot be found in the county to be with notice, the court shall enter a discharge of his on the record and give him a therefor but the court shall not enter the discharge, nor give such certificate, until the conservator has exhibited to the court the written statement of the protectee, acknowledging the receipt of all money and other property due from the conservator, which written statement shall be signed by the protectee and in every case by the protectee to be his , before some officer by law to take . Upon the conservator shall be of record.
