Lack of responsibility because of mental disease or defect
A person cannot be found guilty of a crime if, at the time they did it, a mental illness or defect made them unable to understand what they were doing or that it was wrong. The rules for how this defense works in court are found in chapter 552 of Missouri law.
562.086. because of . — 1. A person is not responsible for if at the time of such conduct as a result of mental disease or defect he was incapable of knowing and appreciating the nature, quality or wrongfulness of his or her conduct.
