Involuntary manslaughter, second degree, penalty

If someone acts in a very careless way and causes another person to die, that is involuntary manslaughter in the second degree. This is normally a class E felony. If the person who died was a police officer who was targeted on purpose, or a close family member of a police officer who was targeted because of that connection, the crime becomes a class D felony, which is more serious.
