Bus hijacking, penalty

This law covers crimes involving buses. Taking over a bus by force or threats is a serious crime (class B felony). Scaring, threatening, or attacking a bus driver or worker to try to take over the bus is also a crime (class D felony). If a weapon is used during that attack, it becomes an even more serious crime (class A felony). A passenger who hides a dangerous weapon on themselves while riding a bus is committing a crime (class D felony). Law enforcement officers and security workers carrying weapons for their job are exempt, and so are people who have permission from the bus owner to have a weapon onboard.

577.703. Bus hijacking, with intent to commit bus hijacking, penalty, with a , penalty — possession and of deadly weapon by passenger, penalty, . — 1. A person commits the of bus hijacking if he or she seizes or exercises control, by force or violence or threat of force or violence, of any bus. The offense of bus hijacking is a .

2. The offense of "assault with the intent to commit bus hijacking" is defined as an intimidation, threat, assault or toward any driver, attendant or guard of a bus so as to interfere with the performance of duties by such person. Assault to commit bus hijacking is a .

3. Any person, who, in the of such intimidation, threat, assault or battery with the intent to commit bus hijacking, employs a dangerous or deadly weapon or other means capable of inflicting serious bodily injury shall, upon , be guilty of a .

4. Any passenger who boards a bus with a dangerous or deadly weapon or other means capable of inflicting serious bodily injury concealed upon his or her person or is guilty of the of "possession and concealment of a dangerous or deadly weapon" upon a bus. Possession and concealment of a dangerous and deadly weapon by a passenger upon a bus is a class D felony. The of this shall not apply to duly elected or appointed law officers or commercial personnel who are in possession of weapons used within the course and scope of their ; nor shall the provisions of this subsection apply to persons who are in possession of weapons or other means of inflicting serious bodily injury with the of the owner of such bus, his or her , or the or of such bus.
