Labor union activities and other employee activities, exempt
The gang-related laws in this group do not apply to workers doing things together to help each other at work, or to unions and their members. Also, local governments (like cities or counties) are allowed to make their own local rules about gangs and gang violence, as long as those rules fit with the state laws. If a local rule covers the same thing as the state law, both can apply — the state law does not cancel out the local one.
578.427. Labor union activities and other employee activities, — local governments may adopt laws consistent with and alternative to. — 1. Sections 578.421 to 578.437 shall not apply to employees engaged in for their mutual aid and protection, or the activities of or their members or agents.
