Administration of oaths
A representative from the department has the power to put people under oath, take statements from witnesses, and send official orders (called subpoenas) requiring people to show up, answer questions, and hand over records. If someone ignores one of these orders or refuses to answer questions, the department can take legal steps to force them to cooperate. The department representative can also officially certify documents.
