Minimum wage and employment benefits, limitations on political subdivisions
Cities, counties, and other local governments in Missouri are not allowed to make their own rules forcing businesses to pay a certain minimum wage or provide certain job benefits to workers. Only the state can set those kinds of rules.
290.528. Minimum wage and , limitations on . — 1. As used in this section, the following terms shall mean:
(1) "Employee", an individual employed in this state by an employer;
(2) "Employer", any individual, , , , , or any other that is legally doing business in this state; except that, the term "employer" shall not include any public employer, as defined in section 285.525;
(3) "Employment benefits", anything of value that an employee may receive from an employer in addition to wages and salary. The term includes, but is not limited to, health, , retirement, profit-sharing, and death benefits; group accidental death and dismemberment benefits; paid or unpaid days off from work for holidays, sick leave, , and personal necessity; and terms of , attendance, or leave policies;
(4) "", any , special , local governmental body, county, city, town, or village.
2. any other of law to the contrary, no political subdivision shall establish, , or otherwise require an employer to provide to an employee:
(1) A minimum or rate; or
(2) Employment benefits;
