A vehicle registered in another state that cannot legally drive on Missouri roads under normal rules can get a short-term trip permit instead of paying full registration fees. The permit costs ten dollars, lasts up to 72 hours, and must be obtained before the vehicle enters Missouri. If a driver does not get the permit first, they can be arrested and must get one before continuing. The permit also covers any trailer being pulled by that vehicle, and allows hauling the maximum legal weight.
301.265. s — fees — without , effect — not required if agreement with other states. — 1. 4. Operators who fail to obtain such permit before the vehicle enters or commences its trip in this state are subject to and must obtain such permit before . The permits shall be made available at official highway weight stations.
5. The purchase of a ten dollar trip permit shall allow such operator to haul the maximum weight allowed by .
6. Such permits may be sold in advance of the date of their use in such quantities as the director of revenue shall determine.
