Be An Organ Donor special license plates, application, fee

A vehicle owner can get a special 'Be An Organ Donor' license plate by paying $25 each year to the organ donor program fund, plus a $15 fee on top of regular registration fees. The plate says 'BE AN ORGAN DONOR' instead of 'SHOW-ME STATE.' If the owner does not pay the $25 contribution when renewing registration, the special plate gets replaced with a regular one.

301.3125. Be An Organ Donor special s, , fee. — 1. Any vehicle owner may apply for "Be An Organ Donor" special for any motor vehicle the person owns, either solely or jointly, other than an or a d in excess of twenty-four thousand . Upon making a twenty-five dollar annual to the organ donor program , established section 194.297, the vehicle owner may apply for the "Be An Organ Donor" . If the contribution is made directly to the , the state treasurer shall the individual making the contribution a receipt, verifying the contribution, that may be used to apply for the "Be An Organ Donor" license plate. If the contribution is made directly to the , the shall note the contribution and the owner may then apply for the "Be An Organ Donor" plate. The for such plate must pay a fifteen dollar fee in addition to the regular and present any other documentation required by law for each set of "Be An Organ Donor" plates issued pursuant to this section. the of section 301.144, no additional fee shall be charged for the of license plates issued pursuant to this section.

2. The "Be An Organ Donor" plate shall have the words "BE AN ORGAN DONOR" in place of the words "SHOW-ME STATE". Such license plates shall be made with with a common color scheme and design, shall be clearly visible at night, and shall be aesthetically attractive, as prescribed by section 301.130.

3. These plates shall be designed by the director, in consultation with the organ donation , established pursuant to section 194.300, to educate the public about the urgent need for organ donation and the life saving benefits of organ transplants.

4. A vehicle owner, who was previously issued a plate with the words "BE AN ORGAN DONOR" by this section but who does not present a contribution receipt or make a contribution to the organ donor program fund at a subsequent time of , shall be issued a new plate which does not bear the words "BE AN ORGAN DONOR", as otherwise provided by law.

5. The director of revenue may and regulations for the of this section. Any or portion of a rule, as that term is defined in section 536.010, that is created under the in this section shall become effective only if it complies with and is subject to all of the provisions of and, if applicable, section 536.028. This section and chapter 536 are and if any of the powers with the pursuant to chapter 536 to , to delay the , or to disapprove and a rule are subsequently held , then the of and any rule proposed or adopted after August 28, 2004, shall be and .
