Anyone can ask a court to appoint someone to manage the money and property of a minor or a person who can't handle their own finances due to a physical or mental condition. The paperwork must explain who the person is, why they need help, and what condition makes it hard for them to manage their finances. This money-management request can be filed together with a request to appoint someone to make personal decisions for that same person.

The petition shall contain the same allegations as are set forth in (1), (8), and (10) of 2 of section 475.060 with respect to the appointment of a guardian for an and, in addition , an allegation that the is unable by reason of some specific physical or cognitive condition to receive and evaluate or to communicate decisions to such an extent that the respondent lacks ability to manage his or that the respondent is under the age of eighteen years.
2. A petition for appointment of a or of the may be combined with a petition for appointment of a guardian or of the person. In such a combined petition allegations need not be repeated.
