If someone is brought to court because they ignored a subpoena, a judge looks at their reason. If they have a good reason for not showing up, they can be let go, and the judge decides if they have to pay court costs or not. If they have no good reason, the judge can fine them up to twenty dollars, and they can be held in jail until they pay the fine and costs.
491.350. for failure to obey without excuse. — If any so attached shall show a reasonable excuse for not appearing, as required by the subpoena, he shall be , either with or without payment of the of the , in the of the ; but if he fail to show any good and sufficient reason for not attending, he shall be d in such sum as the associate circuit judge shall think reasonable to impose, not exceeding twenty dollars, and may be until such fine and costs are paid, in like manner as persons may be committed for the nonpayment of fines and costs in .
