Officers or members of governing bodies of certain corporations, charities, organizations or clubs immune from personal liability for official acts, exceptions
If someone volunteers as an officer or board member of a nonprofit or charity (a 501(c) organization) and does not get paid a regular salary, that person cannot be personally sued for money damages for things done as part of that role. This protection only covers actions tied to the nonprofit role, and it does not apply if the person acted on purpose to cause harm, acted recklessly, or was grossly negligent. The nonprofit organization itself is not affected by this rule.
537.117.
