Injury to stock by railroad

If a railroad hurts or kills someone's livestock and owes money for it, the owner and the railroad can agree on how much money should be paid. Once they agree, the railroad has 40 days to pay that amount to the owner or the owner's representative.

Word-for-word law

537.280. Injury to stock by railroad — agreed — payment, when. — Whenever any shall be injured or killed by any railroad, so as to render the railroad under section 537.270, or otherwise, and the owner of said livestock so injured or killed, or his , and the or of the railroad, shall agree upon the amount of damage or damages by the owner, the railroad shall, within forty days after said agreement, pay to the owner thereof, or his authorized agent, the amount of damage or damages so agreed upon.
