When a judge needs to hire a private company to provide probation services, the judge has to follow the state's standard rules for getting bids and proposals. Any contract for probation services has to last at least three years. But if there is a good reason, the judge can end the contract early before the three years are up.
559.612. Bids to be made by private entities — minimum duration for contracts — prior to expiration permitted. — Judges shall applications and proposals in accordance with of chapter 34 on bids and requests for proposals. The minimum length of any services contract entered into by either associate or judges shall be three years. However, the judges shall have the right to terminate the contract for cause prior to its expiration date.
