Inapplicability of act
Most of the rules about owning large carnivores (like lions or tigers) do not apply to certain groups. Animal shelters can care for a large carnivore for up to 90 days. Law enforcement officers and state agriculture workers are exempt when doing their jobs. Vets are exempt when treating or humanely putting down a large carnivore. Certain federally licensed exhibitors who already had a large carnivore before August 28, 2010 are also exempt, as long as their business is not used to attract customers to another business. People just passing through Missouri who do not live there and are not putting on a show are also exempt.
