Special license plates for disabled veterans stay valid as long as the veteran has their disability. Most veterans with these plates need to send in proof of their disability and vehicle inspection every year. But if a veteran lost an eye or a limb, or has a 100% permanent disability, they only need to prove the disability once — they just need to show proof they are still alive each year after that. These special plates cannot be put on a very large commercial truck that weighs more than 24,000 pounds.
301.074. Duration of — annual of inspection and , — on . — plates issued under sections 301.071 to 301.075 shall be valid for the duration of the veteran's disability. Each such issued license plates under these shall annually furnish proof of vehicle inspection and proof of disability to the , except that an applicant whose qualifying him for special license plates consists in whole or in part of loss of an eye or a limb or an applicant with a one hundred percent permanent disability, as established by a physician's signed statement to that effect, need only furnish proof of disability to the director when initially applying for the special license plates and not thereafter, but in such case proof that the veteran is alive shall be required annually. No in excess of twenty-four thousand may be licensed under the provisions of sections 301.071 to 301.075.
