Registration of motor vehicles operated for first time in state
When someone moves to Missouri and brings a car that was registered in another state, they have 30 days after becoming a Missouri resident to register it in Missouri. The first registration might be for less than 12 months, depending on what the director decides. After that short first period, the car gets registered for full 12-month periods like normal.
301.100. of motor vehicles operated for first time in state. — 1. Motor vehicles not previously in Missouri and operated for the first time on the public highways of this state may be initially registered for less than a twelve-month period at the 's , when in his such shall tend to fulfill the purpose of the .
2. Upon expiration of the initial fractional registration periods, motor vehicles so registered shall thereafter be registered for twelve-month periods as provided in section 301.030.
3. for registration of a motor vehicle not previously registered in Missouri, operated for the first time on the public highways of this state, and previously registered in another state shall be made within thirty days after the owner of such motor vehicle has become a resident of this state.
