Warranty extension, when

In plain English

This law is about what happens when a new car has a problem that hasn't been fixed under warranty. If a car problem was reported but not fixed before the warranty ran out, the warranty time can be stretched a little longer. The car maker must give buyers information on how to complain, and the buyer has to tell the maker in writing about the problem before taking legal action. After the buyer brings the car in, the maker has 10 days to fix it. If the car still isn't fixed, the maker must tell the buyer if there is an informal way to settle the dispute. A person has to file any lawsuit within six months after the warranty ends, or within 18 months of buying the car, whichever comes first — or within 90 days after an informal dispute process finishes.
