Jurisdiction

In plain English

When a parent is deployed in the military, courts follow special rules about which court has the power to make custody decisions. A court can only make custody orders during deployment if it already has the legal authority to do so under Missouri's custody laws. A parent's home state does not change just because they are deployed, whether a temporary or permanent custody order is in place. A court can still step in for emergencies even with these rules.
