When someone is wrapping up a deceased person's estate, they file a final settlement with the court. After that is filed, anyone with an interest in the estate has 20 days to file a written complaint about it. That written complaint must clearly say what the problem is and what change is wanted. If nobody complains, the court can approve the settlement without a hearing. If someone does complain, the court holds a hearing to look into it.
473.590. Objections to , when filed — form — — approval. — Within twenty days after the of the and , or such longer time as may be ed by the court, any may file written objections . The court may receive and file a final settlement before the date specified in the , or before the date to which the settlement was continued, but in case of such premature filing the twenty-day period for filing objections shall from the date specified in the published notice or the date to which the settlement was continued, as the case may be. The objections must be in writing and clearly state the specific grounds of objection and the desired. If no objections are filed, the court may approve the final settlement and , without hearing if it deems such proper. If objections are filed, or if the court does not deem it proper to approve the final settlement and order distribution as prayed without hearing, a hearing on the matter shall be had.
