Personal financial resources, guardian not obligated to use
A guardian does not have to spend their own money to take care of the person they are guarding. If that person does not have enough money or public benefits, the guardian can ask the county for help. A guardian cannot put their ward in a mental health or intellectual disability facility for more than 30 days without a court order. When a social service agency is the guardian, only the top person in charge (or someone they pick) can make decisions for the ward. That agency must tell the court within 15 days if the main person handling the ward's care changes. A social service agency acting as guardian cannot also provide other services to that same ward.
