If someone has a document that gives them a claim to a piece of land, and they actually use and control part of that land as if they own all of it, the law treats them as if they possessed the whole piece of land.
516.040. of land under , effect. — The possession, under color of title, of a part of a track or lot of land, in the name of the whole tract claimed, and exercising, during the time of such possession, the usual over the whole tract so claimed, shall be a possession of the whole of such tract.
