Missouri expungement fund, use of moneys
Missouri set up a special bank account called the Missouri Expungement Fund. Money goes into it from the state government, donations, and grants. That money can only be spent on two things: (1) computer systems and technology that help erase or seal criminal records, and (2) paying the workers or contractors who do that job.
610.144. Missouri , use of moneys. — 1. (1) There is hereby created in the the "Missouri Expungement Fund", which shall consist of moneys to it by the and gifts, donations, , and . The shall be . In accordance with sections 30.170 and 30.180, the state treasurer may approve . The fund shall be a and, upon , moneys in this fund shall be used solely as provided in 2 of this section.
(2) The state treasurer shall invest moneys in the fund in the same manner as other funds are invested. Any interest and moneys earned on such investments shall be to the fund.
2. The office of and the of public safety shall expend moneys from the fund, upon appropriation, on the statewide court automation case management system and the Missouri system established under sections 43.500 to 43.530 for one or more of the following purposes:
(1) Expenses that may be incurred to develop, establish, maintain, or operate any technology equipment, software, systems, or services associated with the expungement or closing of s under Missouri law, including the development and implementation of any technology-assisted, state-initiated or under Missouri law; or
(2) The cost of necessary personnel or contractors.
